Hi everyone! My name is Jonny Rhodes and I’m the CEO and founder of BikeNav. This is the first time I’ve written a blog post for BikeNav so bare with me! I’m sure as I write more blog posts the quality will improve (I hope).
So where to start? BikeNav is a motorbike-specific navigation systems app that allows users to choose how they reach their destination. It all revolves around the principle that it’s not about the destination, but the journey itself.
Using sophisticated algorithms, BikeNav users can choose how they reach their destination with four different route types. This includes Fastest, Fast and Curvy, Curvy or Extra Curvy routes. Now why is this beneficial and how exactly does it improve people’s motorbiking experiences? To answer this question I need to go back and give a bit of background about my own experiences.
Ever since I bought my first motorbike, I was immediately hooked by the feeling of total relaxation and adrenaline. That’s a somewhat oxymoronic thing to feel, right? For those of you who have never ridden a motorbike before, the best way I can explain this feeling is to describe it as a constant state of hyper-awareness. We are aware of almost every conceivable thing in the environment. Feeling the power of the engine between my legs and registering every puddle or pothole, my instincts are never sharper than when I’m on my bike. For this reason when I’m accelerating along a curvy route or passing through an amazing view – it gives me unique emotional pleasure. I feel one with my surroundings and enter an almost zen-like state. There is truly nothing like it.
Which brings me to why I started BikeNav! As I rode my bike through the Lake District, I wondered if any Google or Apple Maps had a feature that would allow me to find the curviest routes around as well as find the most scenic routes possible. I was both intrigued and disappointed to find out that these features did not exist. This was the lynchpin that started me on my journey to create a user friendly app that can improve motorbikers’ experiences around the world. We’ve also added social features that allows users to share their routes with friends and keep track of one another!
It’s been a lot of hard work but I am happy to announce that since we launched in September over 5000 riders have trialled the app and rated it as being one of the most user friendly on the market. The app offers all riders a free trial, and we look forward to releasing more features in the near future. I am very proud of what has been accomplished so far and am really looking forward to releasing the Android version & Web Version in the coming months.
